Introducing: Suave Punk – Petals

One of the most exciting names in Post-Punk and shoegaze, Suave Punk, returns this Spring with a gloriously nuanced release ‘Petals’. Released via L.A Label Pack Records (Godford / Glaive / CARR / Aldn) – The track builds from thick, crunchy guitar layers to Suave’s sultry effect-laden vocal line. The track then introduces a vintage guitar topline, reminiscent of My Bloody Valentine. Filled with emotive progressions, Suave Punk says the track is:

“A song born from the human struggle; brought by things you can’t have, people who come and go. Sometimes the thought of it can send you spiralling as the more you try to hold on, the more it fades from you. But understanding this is a step in the right direction; it’s the first step. And I think that’s what Petals is essentially: a celebration of that realization.”

Describing his upbringing as nomadic, Suave Punk is the songwriting project of L.A Based, Korean-American songwriter Justin Kim. His upbringing took him from Wisconsin to Florida, to Southern California before settling in L.A. The flames of his creativity were fanned from a young age as his parents encouraged his love of music and film. On one of his journeys, moving to a new home, his father gave him a simple point-and-shoot camera which sparked his love for film & photography. which he would later go on to study.
