TOTW: ‘The Current’ – Mogli

German-based singer-songwriter and all-around creative tour de force Mogli releases her second single ‘The Current’ off her forthcoming cinematic album ‘RAVAGE’. Inspired by a difficult time in her life, after the release of her EP ‘Patience’, Mogli found the strength to break out of a toxic relationship and moving back to Berlin, embarking on a journey of creative re-discovery.

“I broke out of a toxic relationship and moved to Berlin. Consequently, I was completely on my own trying to find out who I was while battling depression,” she states. “I passionately dove into touring and working which inevitably led to burn-out. Writing this album became my catharsis, I was able to face my fears. Being brave enough to make yourself vulnerable heals you and brings you happiness.”

“I can go for some time without realising something is amiss but as soon as I do I need to change.”

The self-assured latest single from Mogli sees her believing that she is “brave enough to swim against the currents”. Driven by a marching drum groove and bouncy synth bass, Mogli lets it all pour out in the chorus with the addition of warm pads, crashing cymbals and her unique folk-leaning vocal tone. The single explores themes of overcoming challenges and self-belief no matter how hard things get. Speaking on the new single, Mogli states:

“It takes so much courage to walk into the unknown. With nothing other to hold on to than the certainty that I’m leaving a toxic situation I was pep talking myself into building a new life despite being scared.”
