Sugarcane’s dazzling new single ‘Clear Blue Sky’ is brimming with languid summery nostalgia. Star of The Good Doctor, Misfits and Lovesick, actress Antonia Thomas’ gorgeous vocals invite you to escape. It’s the perfect tonic after a stressful year, and promises much for Sugarcane’s eagerly awaited debut album Cat’s Eyes released later this month.
The man behind Sugarcane, Robin French, felt the enchanting song penned by Mr Hudson (Kanye West, Jay Z, Mr Hudson and the Library) needed to have its time in the sun. French and Mr Hudson met aged 12, when Robin recruited Ben to play drums for a school band. They went onto form Mr Hudson and the Library, who played Jools Holland, opened the Other Stage at Glastonbury, and toured with Amy Winehouse, The Police and Kanye West.
French states: “Clear Blue Sky was something of a legendary track amongst Ben’s [Mr Hudson] friends. It was one of his loveliest songs, and somehow he’d never released it. It makes me feel nostalgic about past summers, and excited about summers to come. I arranged it to fit the indie-samba Sugarcane sound, and Antonia and I went to the seaside to record it.”
