Monticolombi

TOTD: ‘PRAISE’ – MONTICOLOMBI

Monticolombi has overcome his fair share of obstacles in the run up to his musical comeback. Despite a few setbacks, namely an unexpected heart attack at the age of 22, the 24 year old hip-hop/R&B artist has been making a name with his solo material in the past year. Attention from 1XTRA and BBC Introducing has helped cement Monticolombi as one of the most exciting artists in the hip-hop scene and his new release ‘Praise’ demonstrates why.

Reminiscent of artists like Tom Misch and JWEstern, ‘Praise’ is as laid-back as it is funky. Outstanding production provides a solid base for the vocals that move from stunning harmonisation to chilled out rapping in a heartbeat. Monticolombi’s previous experience shines through: he’s clearly an experienced songwriter doing what he loves best.

As only his fourth release, ‘Praise’ proves that Monticolombi is in it for the long run. We can only hope for shows and an album sooner rather than later but, for now, ‘Praise’ is more than enough to keep us occupied.
