Born in Iceland, Frid, also known as Sigfríð Rut Gyrðisdóttir, has been singing and making music her whole life. Despite a few hurdles along the way, Frid released her debut EP If you listen… in 2019, inspired by FKA Twigs and James Blake. Her latest release ‘Woods’ rides the momentum created by If you listen… to great effect.

Frid’s vocals are undoubtedly the focal point of her music. Ambient soundscapes create an intense feeling of melancholy while creating enough space to put Frid front and centre. The singer’s experimental vocal style is bold and exciting: it’s glitchy nature standing out in stark contrast to the fluid instrumental.

If ‘Woods’ is anything to go by, Frid is on course for a great year. Her unique style helps her stand out from the usual indie crowd and she’ll be sure to attract attention from all the right places with her next few releases.
