TOTD- Annabel Allum- ‘Boys Do Cry’
After releasing ‘Standing In The Way Of Control’ as part I of her ‘Lockdown Sessions’ which landed features in Spotify’s ‘The Listening Post’ and ‘Alt.Rocked’ playlists, Annabel Allum is back with her version of The Cure’s ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ or rather ‘Boys Do Cry’.
Making reference to the growing mental health crisis and dedicating her rendition to the men closest to her, this stripped-back sentiment taps delicately into Annabel’s past as she reminisces “(her) dad would often return from months away with the army, quiet and subdued, aside from the selection of CDs he would play on a Sunday evening helping him to process his thoughts”.
With jangly guitar riffs and Annabel’s signature chafed vocals, Annabel’s fresh take on the alternative hit presents a more folk-inspired frontier whilst also preserving the track’s warm indie charm. ‘Boys Do Cry’ is a particularly heartfelt offering from the Guildford based singer-songwriter, just in time for the Christmas Holidays.
