Pronoun ‘Wrong’

I’m not gonna lie, it’s been a bit of a shit week. Well at least an up and down week (and it’s only Wednesday). That’s why I’m so looking forward to our Alternative Escape Stage at The Great Escape, Brighton on Friday – not only do we literally get to see the fruits of our labours in the form of all our great KM acts, it will also be a great opportunity to hang out with some lovely people by the seaside. I’m just praying that it doesn’t rain (it will) and that everyone has a swell time at our stage (they will). Today I’m listening to the new single from pronoun (AKA Alyse Vellturo), the first release since her debut EP in 2016. ‘Wrong’ is all about the emotional carnage left in the wake of a break up – in this case, Vellturo was inspired by her conflicting feelings towards an ex-girlfriend as she sings ‘You can’t go backwards/ Guess I couldn’t ever relate/ Now I’m sitting feeling sorry/ For somebody that I hate/ And it feels so wrong’. Bounding electric guitar provides a bedrock for Vellturo’s velvety vocal as piercing, mechanical sounding synth melodies soar above the mix and add a sense of retro nostalgia. Enjoy.
