Graham Coxon ‘Falling’

I’M COLD. I’m so so cold. Getting out of bed is literally the hardest part of my day now, compounded by the fact that the cat has taken to biting my hands when I wake up. Happily, this is only due to the chilliness of my bedroom, rather than anything more sinister. Struggling to get out of bed in the morning is actually often one of the first signs that someone is struggling with depression or low mood, which is the focus of the new single ‘Falling’ from Blur’s Graham Coxon. Released to raise money for CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably), the track was written by his friend Luke Daniel, who tragically took his own life after suffering with chronic pain for a number of years. Even without knowing the backstory behind the song, it is undoubtably beautiful in it’s simplicity – knowing, however, takes it to new devastating realms. The subtle yet driving rhythm section allows Cox’s unaffected vocal to take centre stage as he communes Daniel’s most candid thoughts. Enjoy.
