Thyla ‘Ferris Wheels’

Olivia here. I need a wedding dress. Okay, let me rephrase. I need a dress for a wedding. Or a suit. Anything really. I spent yesterday afternoon in what is probably the most depressing shopping centre in the country, frantically combing through sale racks for something a) cheap, and b) will make me look sophisticated, yet flirty, approachable, but fierce, femme, with a hint of butch. Needless to say, I came home empty handed, save for some budget socks for my boyfriend (and he says I never buy him gifts – girl, please). There are few things more disappointing than trying on loads of clothes and not finding anything that looks good, so in an effort to cheer myself up, I’m listening to Thyla’s new single ‘Ferris Wheels‘. The Brighton band’s latest offering comes over a year since their last release, and showcases a sophisticated indie sound with a hint of 80’s New Romanticism. Kate Bush-esque vocals come courtesy of lead singer and guitarist Millie Duthie, playing catch up with cascading guitar riffs and pounding drums. Darkly swirling synths play up the 80’s aesthetic, whilst the polished production brings the track up to date – the perfect mix of old and new. Enjoy.
