PREMIERE: LILLIPUT ‘HEAVY CLOUDS (BELIEVE)’
Olivia here, standing in for Ach while he is literally being held captive at the top of a mountain in Canada by some heavy snowfall – and today we have a brand new premiere for you from Sunderland based pop-rock band Lilliput, who have developed a uniquely whimsical sound built off the back of funk-inspired guitar riffs and intelligently harmonised vocals. With an achingly-cool vocal delivery from lead singer Joe Collins and sophisticated guitar and bass riffs, this is the perfect track to listen to when winding down at the end of a long day, which is exactly what I am doing right now. It’s also a great example of when ‘less is more’ – there’s absolutely no need for any virtuosic guitar solos or complex electronics, and this paired back aesthetic is entirely contemporary and fresh. However, there are tinges of the likes of The Beach Boys and The Beatles in the almost Baroque-style harmonies – perhaps a result of recent addition to the band, Carmen Green from indie-dance outlet Polarsets on to keys and vocals. There’s also something very soothing about this track, something that says ‘it’s all going to be okay’ – a self-described ‘self-help’ pop song that’s all about ‘being positive about the negative’, which is some advice I think we could all stand to remember.
‘Midnight Daydream’ is out on 24th October digitally and the physical release is set for 11th November 2016
