Young Tide

Oh heeeeeey, what is UP? Everything’s real warm and sunny both on the inside and on the outside for us. Yeah, still on that happiness trip, we are. Get over it. So we got our New Moons Vol IV announcement out and about finally. They say the trick (or one of many, it seems) to showbiz is to make it look easy for everybody else. Well, as we’re sure the rest of the world already knows by now, it ain’t fucking easy. Music isn’t easy. Selling music sure as shit isn’t easy. Life isn’t easy. Not many people do all of those things really easily, y’know? Well, putting that ruddy compilation with all its licensing glory (thanks for going relatively easily on us, major label licensing departments, and eventually realising there’s not much point trying to squeeze advances out of us) wasn’t and still isn’t easy. But it sure as shit is fun once it gets going. From what we understand from new guys Young Tide, having the balls to create pretty far-out-there indie pop music and then put that pretty-far-out-there music actually out-there wasn’t an easy decision to reach at all. But they did it. They fucking did and and they should be proud, because they having largely managed to encapsulate the sound of summery happiness and all the mental behaviour that is likely to ensue over the next couple of months and wrap it all up into two and a half minutes of an erratic sonic joygasm. Yeah, you heard. What do we know about these chaps? Assuming they’re chaps, that is. That should give an indication as to how much concrete knowledge we have other than what we have briefly seen and/or heard. Well, there appear to be three of them; inclusive of a chap called Sam who also produces stuff under the moniker of Eyes. They seem partial to a bit of denim. They are from London – apart from Sam of course who is more of a Brighton based dude. They describe themselves as “fun pop”, and that’s right fucking on. And they certainly don’t seem to mind crunking hard in the poppiest way possible. We love it, much in the same way as we love the virtual insanity of the works of Everything Everything and Modest Mouse. We’re also going to cite our own pride and joys Fickle Friends by way of referencing the club tropicana imagery they’ve gone for and the glistening pop appeal. Get into it.
