TOTD: ‘nicotine stains’ – second thoughts

Formed in 2018 in Hertfordshire, emerging indie-pop quartet second thoughts return with the release of their infectious new single ‘nicotine stains’, out today.

Inspired by the likes of Pavement and Bombay Bicycle Club, second thoughts combine all the best elements of indie, pop and alt-rock in order to create a sound that feels instantly uplifting and engaging. Produced by The 1975’s Ross MacDonald and mixed by Iain Berryman (Wolf Alice), nicotine stains is a song about having known someone for a while and their personality slowly changing from who they used to be as a result of addiction.

Combining the Maccabees-style vocals with a viral TikTok account, their online presence has proven a driving force for new fans. With ‘nicotine stains’ acting as their first release since January, this newly solidified line-up displays a more advanced sound for the quartet, moving towards a more nineties alt-rock energy.
