HANNAH’S LITTLE SISTER – ’20’
Today’s TOTD comes from Liverpool band Hannah’s Little Sister.
Their single ’20’ is a beer (or whatever beverage you want, I’m choosing an orange juice) raising banger, where fizzy hooks slug in slacker rock. ’20’ is wonderful, because it’s so honest and bittersweet. The theme of the post-teen crisis is narrated perfectly by Meg, who sings in a style where her thick northern accent protrudes. She yelps in parts, she’s unconventional, which just adds to the band’s authenticity. We’ve all been there, we want to conquer the world, but things are stopping us. Despite addressing the setbacks experienced in youth, ’20’ feels ever so carefree and gorgeously weird.
This track couldn’t have come at a better time either, where people are graduating, going off to uni, or actually doing none of that and saving themselves a huge loan. Whatever it is, we all have one thing in common, we have no idea what we’re doing with our lives. And that’s perfectly fine. Hannah’s Little Sister have tapped into our innermost feelings and translated them into a song that just gets us.
