“Shapes In The Dark”
The holidays, it appears, are very much over. The standard grind of yelling at computer screens and making several scathing public remarks about things and people we really shouldn’t be is well and truly underway. We find ourselves working till stupidly late hours once again, and our proposed plan of continuing to switch ourselves off at appropriate times during the day (and indeed evening) has taken a massive bloody nosedive. Welcome (back) to the jungle, as the man said we guess. The one that hasn’t just been flattened near Calais that is. On the sort-of plus side we’re not exactly alone in this almost hysterically-busy point of our year – in that we are indeed hell-bent on dragging everyone else down with us, if we’re going down in that way – and we’re glad to say that our zestiness hasn’t exactly waivered at all. How can we complain, really, when all this shit is fucking amazing? Pretty easily, actually, for context is everything. Something else that makes us happy is learning that Matt Welch’s middle name is actually Tobias, so that’s what we are all going to call him from now on. That’s what he gets for trying to infect us with his bastard cold since last week which manifests itself by making us really dizzy, which has made the commute to work this week doubly interesting. As we’ve settled back into some degree of regularity following our pretty-much 80 Days Around The World trip lately, we have of course used the time to appreciate and indeed get back into the heady world of unsolicited song submissions which arguably got us into this shit in the first place. So here’s props to Luna Parks. They are, as you might be able to see, a duo comprised of one lady and one guy. In terms of what you might not be able to see right from the get-go, they are from Bristol (which is Bad Sounds country, so big ups etc), “they” are in fact Jacob and Georgia, and they also have metaphorical boners for the likes of Niki & The Dove, Fever Ray, SOHN and M83. Which is nice. Musically, in so far as current Track Of The Day Shapes In The Dark is concerned anyway, we find ourselves somewhere mid-way through the track daydreaming about Twin Shadow, Cyndi Lauper, Depeche Mode and KM’s resident ones-that-got-away’ers Worship all ganging up on CHVRCHES and, well, tookin’ their juuuuubs. It’s pretty cool huh?
