“I’m Gonna Do Well”

Calva Louise

Hot, innit? Busy as well, right up until the last hurdle. We have a band coming in, you see. In about 10 minutes, in fact. We’re going to talk to them. Listen to their music. Maybe, y’know, “get involved” as it were. We’re particularly excited about this one given that we not only like the band in question – and indeed the respective bands that they used to be, ticking all kinds of nostalgia boxes along the way – but also it makes a welcome change from writing executive summaries and financial fucking forecasts which is largely what we’ve been doing this week. Whilst you lot have been going out on the large. Well, at least in our mind that’s what you’ve been doing. Well, y’all better look out, because it is indeed the freaking weekend and we are absolutely about to have us some fun; not least of all gearing up and practicing our musical statue moves in prep for Bad Sounds at Koko this evening. It’ll be sweet. Anyway, before all that, we’ve got just about enough time to plop out (nice mental imagery there) one more Track Of The Day for youse this week, and this time its by a person – presumably a girl, given the chosen nomenclature, but then again it could be a Norma Jean style punk statementy…thing – called Calva Louise. She plonked this track online about two hours ago, and her legal reps (we’re actually not kidding there) soon after got in touch, and, well, here we fucking are. This. Is. Punk. Rawk. At least it has the more incendiary elements of the genre, remind us distinctly of a band called Japanese Voyeurs from back in the proverbial day, and other such prolific punk projects like Be Your Own Pet. In our mind’s eye, we also picture this kicking off live in a similar way to what we’ve witnessed with Black Honey in the past few years. And given the aesthetic presentation of the project – about as Beavis and Butthead as you can get without actually being them with the rather gnarly 90’s skateboarder thing going on – we can also imagine the live embodiment of this being as mental as we like to think Grimes is. We love it. Enjoy the goddamn weekend.
