“Mean 2 You”
So, we have recently discovered Game Of Thrones. How nice for us. This has come about via our over-excitement for the weekend back on Friday night – an evening that involved traversing most of London to see Bring Me The Horizon get all orchestral about it at Royal Albert Hall, followed by going to Brixton Academy to watch an entire song performed by this guy Kygo (we didn’t mind so much, but we just had to wee real bad and saw even less than this at the venue as a result, so really the whole mission was in effect the longest journey to have a wee), only to head right back to Royal Albert Hall to storm into the aftershow with no passes to speak of, where we largely just stood next to a big fridge for a bit whilst various members of the UK rock industry set about their UK rock industry ways. What ensued on Saturday can only be described as less than fuck-all, but it was in fact at this point that we began to appreciate Game Of Thrones mainly as for the first time in what seemed like ages, we had time on our hands to understand just what the fuck was going on in-between all the boobs and battles that seemingly go on all the time. As consequence, we are legitimately one of those people who will have a go at you if you tell us what happened in that new episode that apparently has happened recently. Truth be told, our energy levels are still sapped by the aforementioned activities on the weekend. We mean, we had no idea watching Game Of Thrones could be so exhausting. Stimulants in the audio format cometh forth from London duo – from Bow, specifically – KYLYPSO. We have history with at least one of these characters depicted above. We won’t say in what context. Let’s just say we’re a big fan of his, um, looks. These guys in their present form are indeed new, having only surfaced Mean 2 You just over a fortnight ago which is picking up some healthy online wind under itself. Jolly good. Musically, there are both pop and R’n’B (the latter meant in the modern context, of course) elements coursing in a rather doom-ish way throughout which leaves us reminded of summer festivals slow-dancing at 2am to Pitchfork bands that we don’t know very well at all. It’s kinda Delorean, a bit Frett, sort of Chet Faker. Or, as Label Manager Tom has so eloquently just put it, it sounds like Hype Machine. Appreciate its uber-hip stylings below.
