Much as if we were living the life of Scott Pilgrim – in that occasionally we imagine our waking life to be exactly like a computer game; for example when we’re on a particularly busy tube platform and we’re navigating around people who like to suddenly brake in the worst possible position and/or other people who think they’re more bad-ass than us and try to overtake, we like to pretend that we’re working our way through an asteroid field with the relevant soundtracking from The Empire Strikes Back playing on loop in our head – we’ve probably gained the power of invincibility. We mean, shit, we drank plenty yesterday and we’re really not that hungover. We’ve never been invited to the AIM Awards before, you see. We don’t know if they’ll ever invite us back again. We didn’t misbehave much, but more took full advantage of Jack Daniel’s sponsorship of the aforementioned event. And that dinner. Sweet Jesus-god. That beef. Well played, AIM. Even though we weren’t nominated for diddly-squat, we sure were happy to partake. It was all very motivational as well, and delightful to see and indeed experience first-hand this degree of inclusiveness that quite frankly we felt the so-called independent sector had been devoid of for quite some time. That’ll teach us. Fast-forwarding to now, the soundtracking is indeed a marked step up from what we experienced on the tube, and arriveth in formeth ofeth Tennessee tike Jasmin Kaset. Nashville, in fact. A lot of music stuff happens in Nashville. Perhaps we should swing by there at some point. Anyway, Wally of Money For Rope fame and beyond slung this our way, and for this alongside a great many other things we are very grateful indeed. What’s pretty remarkable here is how divided the KM office is today about the musical comparisons that Jasmin could possibly draw; such is the degree of contrast in sound in her debut album Quiet Machine. So, we thought, a double-trouble Track Of The Day seemed more than appropriate. On one hand, you’ve got the fucking fantastically-named Porno Mtn – where we’ve got a spicy mix of Rilo Kiley (says Ross) Fiest and Spinto Band – and on the other, we have the more-sombre You Can Never Go Home Again drawing quirkier comparisons toRegina Spektor, Joanna Newsom, and Ben reckons Jenny Lewis as well. We dig. Now you must dig. DIG, we tells ya.
