There once was a man. His name was Wally. Now, Wally is what we would describe as legit-cool. He is Australian. He has as-close-to-a-metal-beard as you’re going to find in this end of the music game, thereby making him a true diamond in the rough. He has taught us phrases like “I would rather finger-paint with my own faeces” when it comes to describing his desire, or lack thereof, to see certain buzz bands who for the absolute love of all that is good and proper it is beyond us why they’re even allowed to perform on a stage. Wally is our kinda guy. We had the good fortune to meet the man himself at a thing we do at a private members club in Haggerston some months ago. He manages a band called Money For Rope, also Australian but now domestically-resident, who just so happened to be performing that evening. Ben booked em. Gave us the heads up that they play with two drummers, and there was a rather big hoo-haa around where the fuck we would be able to source a second full drum kit (doubly-tricky seeing as a lot of the kids like to use trigger pads, electronic kits and laptop-induced samples these days, and so kit-share was looking a little ominous). We were having a particularly bad week personally-speaking, and so you might be able to imagine how our fuck:giving ratio was somewhat drastically reduced when it came to dealing with this particular stage production conundrum. We also had our doubts – given that we were very much saturated with them at the time about a number of things – that such a double-drummy feat could be implemented to the point of satisfaction. Those doubts were unfounded. What we saw was a stage populated largely by dudes who had an affinity for head sweatbands, brass instruments, The Doors and a hell of a lot of energy. They’re the kinda guys who like to allow truly random members of the audience to play non-fret-interactive guitar parts, and bounce around having the time of their lives. They made us happy. Our peoples. So, of course, we are getting involved. We gots to. We mean, look at these guys. For the first time in what feels like a while, we’re pleased to announce that you can download Money For Rope‘s single Ten Times for absolutely nowt-at-all exclusively from Killing Moon, what is us. Annnnnnnnnd they’re playing fucking Glastonbury. John Peel stage and all. On the Friday just before, um, Jungle. Our first time going. Life is beautiful, especially when you roll with these guys.

You can download Ten Times via the elaborately-installed Soundcloud widget thingy on the right-hand side of this page, or by clicking the various links below. The single is available to download now. Witness the amazing video for the track (which fully affirms why WALLY DOESN’T SHARE FOOD), the press release and standby for announcement of a London launch show.

Emerging in 2011 to play an extended residency at infamous rock club Cherry Bar in AC/DC Lane, Melbourne, Money For Rope were a sprawling 6-piece rock band that got everyone in the rock’n’roll town talking.

For the devil-may-care blues rock band – backed by two drummers and a sound fathered by The Saints, The Sunnyboys, and Radio Birdman, with a slight tinge of The Doors – it was the start of rapturous applause, serious hard work and more than a handful of shows conducted in casts and wheelchairs. The band steadily released a series of 7” singles – ‘Slow Dance’, ‘My House Or Yours’, ‘I’ve Had Days’, and ‘Disable Ksana’ – while proving themselves in the often harsh climate of Australian rock’n’roll.

Squaring away crucial appearances at ‘boutique’ and beloved Australian festivals like Golden Plains, Boogie!, Cherry Rock, The Gum Ball, The Hills Are Alive and NYE On The Hill, Money For Rope were added to lineups for major festival events The Big Day Out, Splendour In The Grass and Queenscliff Music Festival, while support slots began gathering for celebrated, often legendary, artists including Dan Sultan, Rose Tattoo, Cosmic Psychos, Hanni El Khatib, White Denim, Bob Log III, Courtney Barnett, Those Darlins and The Living End, earning them a Best New Artist nomination in Melbourne’s prestigious The Age’s EG Awards.

Money For Rope team up with Killing Moon to release Ten Times as a free digital download. The track comes from their self titled LP, scheduled for release in the UK later this year.
