We have, in the last six-to-seven years or thereabouts, developed an odd habit of only being able to work when we have ridiculously loud and/or heavy music playing in the background. This isn’t one of those we’re-music-muso-types-who-desperately-need-a-thing-to-prove-our-love-relates-to-the-music-and-not-the-business (although admittedly we could do with one of those things, the way shit has gone down recently); it is a true statement of fact. Take the last two days for example. The last two days have arguably been our most productive in 2013 thus far. That’s not to say that we’ve not been productive (just look at the sheer amount of stuff we’ve been releasing lately. LOOK, DAMN YOU), but in comparison, given that we have almost exclusively been listening to hardcore and/or punk rock bands on l’Spotify in the last 48 hours, we find ourselves a lot less strung out – oop, cheeky pun for those who are familiar with the Fat Wreck Chords metallipunks – than we have been in the preceding two weeks. Perhaps this is our true musical sanctuary; indeed we find ourselves lacking in those into the same kinda vibe in our particular hood right now. Carrying us through to a practical state of total calm, in arguably the most ironic way possible, are Toronto-based fuckyayers Greys. Loud and heavy are in fact the very two words that we will never be able to dissociate from these dudes having given Carjack up to 17 consecutive spins just now. If anything, it’s just not long enough. Guys, you need to loop this shit several times over to keep us satisfiiiiyyyyyyyeeeed (or don’t, as clearly we’re quite happy to do that ourselves). This draws on pretty much everything we love about scuzzed-out hardcore and/or heavy rock. Think along the lines of Blood Brothers, The Bronx, Amen, DZ Deathrays, Million Dead and Japandroids and then we may well invite you to the ongoing party that recommences in our head every time we hit the play button on this crunchy groove.
