Lucy Rose

Lucy Rose
“Middle Of The Bed”

Within the world of blogging, there is always an element of pressure to be the very first person on the hottest new music. Now, this isn’t always possible taking into account the amount of brilliant new music coming out at the moment, and also the hectic schedule we have at Killing Moon. This in itself doesn’t mean we haven’t got a huge list of bands and artist we want to write about. This is very much the case with Lucy Rose. Having first seen this talented lady rock The Enterprise in Camden nearly two years ago, and more recently having watched her video for Middle Of The Bed, we’ve been wanting to write and tell the world how much we ruddy well dig it. Lucy is now receiving some pretty high and richly-deserved acclaim –  from Edith Bowman proclaiming on Radio1, “She is absolutely outstanding”, and Q Magazine’s Next Big Thing saying “she could melt the stoniest of hearts”,  we are really not one to disagree, as our hearts are soft and may dissolve in a fizz like aspirin in water if we don’t. Yes, we are an emo bunch here at KM – her voice is like glass, pure and fragile; beautiful tonality with excellent control of her vocal range. Lucy sits somewhere between Florence Welch, Emmy The Great and Laura Marling. Combining many classic elements of a folk singer-songwriter with emotive and heartfelt lyrics, it’s the production and arrangement of her latest single “Middle Of The Bed” which is to be released on 8th August that made this track leap out for us. A steady build starting with acoustic guitar, a simple yet solid beat and a great use of simple background synths and strings. The tracks really comes into itself at the middle 8 where the track falls away just continuing with use of delayed synths, sound-scaping and a trademark vocal hook before effortlessly coming back to the chorus. It’s these small creative touches that make us feel the songwriting and style of Lucy Rose’s music is one to watch out for. Take a watch/listen to the track below and try get along to one of Lucy’s many up and coming shows taking place across the country.
