Interview: The Low Suns

Last month we had the privilege of watching what will be, in our minds, one of the big success stories in pop music for the forseeable future, at an invite-only show located at The Terminal Studios in London Bridge. After playing a few out of town shows, a few big ups by XFM’s Eddy Temple-Morris, an industry fracas ensued to secure the signatures of these five strapping young lads that make up the hit-factory beast that is known as The Low Suns; fast-forward one month later, the boys are poised to own this game with their flashbomb of a single Never Gonna Care.  When we humbly asked for our world-famous interview questions to be passed onto the band, imagine our delight when none other than prolific frontman Jack Berkeley stepped up to the plate, gloriously pictured above. Jack’s a swell guy. Having personally had a glass of water poured over us by his own hand, and gone on a bit of a bender at a Steve Lamacq-haunted pub in central London, we were eager to hear what the big guy had to say for himself and his kinsmen…

Could you introduce yourselves for the hi-brow readership of the Killing Moon blog?

My names Jack. I’m the lead singer of a band called The Low Suns.

I have to stop moving as I am near the table (this is all happening in slow motion), she isn’t facing me and I can only catch the back of her neck, and when she turns to look out the window I see her profile. She looks just like a model.

[KM: That’s a great intro right there, Jackie. May we surmise that you were, in fact, on the proverbial chirpse whilst attempting to apply answers to our intellectually-challenging questionnaire? Or, perchance, are you busting into a lyrical flow stylee? Either way, please concentrate, this is serious big-boy shit]

Favourite release of the last 12 months, and why?

One that springs to mind is The Black Keys album Brothers….  Its raw slinky and sexy… one of the only whole albums that you can happily have dirty loving bad bitch sex to all the way through.

The Low Suns – Never Gonna Care

Favourite show of the last 12 months, and why?

I think when I watched The Horrors show at one of the festivals. I was rushing hard, and it was in a nice dark tent. They played most of Primary Colours. The Horrors are actually one of my favourite bands out there at the moment.

If you could moon anyone, or anything, who or what would it be?

Maybe the Pope, but he’d probably try and dick you along with all the other choir boys that day.

You’re about to be killed. You get to pick one song to hear before your inevitable demise. What’s it gonna be?

Waterloo Sunset by The Kinks is up there.

Killing In The Name Of, or Dark Side Of The Moon?

Dark Side Of The Moon…
